SOLUTION architecture EXPERTISE

delivered in targeted, fixed-price work packages

A Smarter Way to Access Architecture Expertise

In my work as an architecture consultant, I’ve seen one pattern again and again:The demand for architectural expertise comes in waves — surging during key project phases and quieting down in between. It’s common to see teams scrambling for an architect when a new project kicks off or a critical design decision needs urgent attention.

The typical response — hiring a permanent employee or bringing in a full-time contractor — can
take months or cost more than necessary, especially when the actual work may only require a few weeks.

I believe there’s a better way: engaging a contractor who delivers
targeted architecture expertise through fixed-cost work packages. This gives you exactly the support you need, when you need it — without long waits, large budgets or long-term commitments.

That’s exactly what I offer.

FREquently asked questions

What are the benefits of engaging with you in this model?
This model gives you expert-level architecture input, delivered with the speed, focus, and cost-efficiency that traditional hiring routes often lack. Key benefits include:
a) Fast access to an experienced architect, without long lead times or recruitment overhead
b) Fixed-cost packages—clear scope, clear cost, no surprises
c) No long-term commitment—you engage only when there's real work to be done
d) Outcome-focused delivery—aligned to specific goals, not open-ended time
e) Lower overall cost compared to part-time contractors or large consultancies
f) Scales with your need—use me for a few days, a few weeks, or on retainer.
Can you work through our existing procurement frameworks?
Yes. My services can be onboarded using your organisation’s existing contractor engagement model and preferred suppliers — whether you're based in the UK or internationally. No changes to your current onboarding process are required. My goal is to integrate seamlessly into your procurement and compliance workflows, ensuring a smooth, efficient start to our engagement, wherever you're located.
Do we need to change our standard contractor agreement terms and conditions?
No changes are needed — I’m happy to work under your organisation’s standard contractor agreement.

The only practical difference is that I invoice only for the time agreed and spent on an approved work package, rather than billing eight hours each day of the month by default. If you’d prefer to reflect this in the contract wording, that’s absolutely fine — but from my side, it’s not required. My focus is on keeping things simple, transparent, and aligned with how you already engage contractors.
Will there be additional administration overhead for your line manager?
No. I aim to make the engagement as light as possible for your team. I take full responsibility for preparing each work package or Statement of Work, including any discovery and estimation required.Your line manager simply needs to:

a) Review and confirm that the proposed scope is correct,
b) Check that the estimated effort is reasonable, and
c) Confirm that the outcome meets expectations once delivered.

There’s no need for daily oversight or micro-management. I handle the planning, progress, and delivery—while aligning with your reporting or governance processes if required.
For a client in the UK, can you work inside IR35 if required?
Yes. I can work through an umbrella company if your organisation requires it, and I’m familiar with the compliance and reporting standards involved.
How is this different from simply hiring someone part-time?
Part-time contracting typically involves ongoing, time-based commitments—whether or not there’s meaningful work to fill that time. In contrast, my model is outcome-focused. outcome-focuEach engagement is scoped around a specific need, delivered as a fixed-cost work package. You only pay for the effort required to get the agreed work done—whether that takes two days or two weeks—without the ongoing overhead of managing part-time schedules.
Can you integrate with our existing team and architecture governance process?
Absolutely. I’ve worked in many highly structured and regulated environments like HMRC and Ministry of Defence, and I know how to align with existing architecture forums, design authorities, delivery teams, and documentation standards—without slowing things down.
What kind of architecture work do you deliver as fixed-cost packages?
I focus on short-term, well-scoped pieces of architecture work—such as solution design, design documentation, architecture reviews, technical options analysis, or assisting with RFI/RFP responses. Each package is tailored to your specific need and agreed upfront in terms of scope, effort, and outcome. Explore the full range of examples in the Services page.
What if the scope changes or isn’t fully clear at the start?
That’s absolutely fine. We start with a brief discussion to clarify your goals and constraints. If things shift midstream, we can adjust the scope or timebox the work until priorities are clearer. I aim to stay flexible, while still providing predictability.
How quickly can you get started?
I can begin within a couple of days of our initial conversation. I suggest setting up a contract in advance, so you're not delayed by procurement steps when the time comes.
Will you be available when something urgent comes up?
I manage my workload to remain responsive. If a contract has been setup in advance, I can usually step in with very short notice, to begin working on a Statement of Work (SoW) or a Work Package. It’s one of the key benefits of this flexible model.

I also offer an optional retainer model where you can reserve a minimum of 5 or 10 days per month. This gives you prioritised access to my time over other clients and ensures I’m available when you need me, without delay.
How do you ensure quality and accountability in a short engagement?
Every work package will include clearly defined deliverables, timelines, and review points. I also include time for stakeholder walkthroughs and refinement. My goal is to leave you with a complete, usable output that stands up to scrutiny—and to make the experience seamless.
How do you ensure billing matches the agreed effort?
By default, I work on fixed-price work packages with a clear scope and agreed deliverables—so there are no surprises in cost. If your organisation requires timesheet-based invoicing (e.g. booking effort against approved time), I can align to that too. The key is transparency—whether by deliverable or by time, the agreed scope remains at the centre of how I work.
Do you work remotely, or can you attend meetings onsite?
I work primarily remotely, which keeps engagements efficient and cost-effective. However, I’m happy to attend onsite meetings when needed—such as stakeholder workshops, onboarding sessions, or key design reviews.
Can I reserve your time on a monthly basis?
Yes—if you expect to need support regularly, I offer an optional retainer model where you can reserve a minimum of 5 or 10 days per month. This gives you prioritised access to my time over other clients and ensures I’m available when you need me, without delay.
Does this model cost anything when no work package is being delivered?
No—there are no costs or retainers unless we’ve agreed on a work package or a monthly reservation. You’re free to engage me only when you need architecture support.
